Erin Ryan's personal Web site

I live in Charlotte, North Carolina. I grew up in Winston-Salem, N.C., went to college in Asheville, N.C., then moved away from the state for 14 years. Over the years I lived in Minnesota, Kansas, Missouri, Maine and Vermont. I'm an editor. I'm a writer. I've written over 80 essays, articles and book reviews for a number of religious magazines and journals, most of them for a newspaper in Missouri, the National Catholic Reporter, where I was on staff. I've also written a few articles for the Charlotte Observer's "Faith and Values" section.
My true love is writing fiction; that is where I spend most of my energy. I've published a chapbook, The Barrier (Back Channel Press, 2011). One of my short stories, "En Plein Air," won first prize in the 2011 Charlotte Writers' Club Emerging Writers Contest. I've had a couple of other short stories published in the online magazine Every Day Fiction, one of which was chosen for the anthology The Best of Every Day Fiction Three. I'm presently writing a sort of hybrid play/novel called The Tyranny of Jessica (the main characters are a human copy editor and a robot who rules the world).
I also enjoy creating works on paper, especially printmaking. I rent display space at the Charlotte Art League, in the city's South End, where some of my works are for sale.
